If your display screen does not produce accurate colors, what you perceive as beautiful may actually be crappy on other monitors. Unless you have something like a $5000 K-10A with sealed glass filters you're better off just paying some photo shop to calibrate for you.For a photographer or videographer, color accuracy of a display is extremely important. I recommend the C6 for anyone with a decent but not enormous budget.Įven worse is that the color filters in these cheap colorimeters degrade over time, and they get to the point where they're utterly useless.

I use the i1Pro 2 to profile the Display Pro which is really the only way to make an inexpensive colorimeter usable. If you really need calibration you just need to go all out for a spectrophotometer/spectroradiometer or get a profiled colorimeter / profile one yourself. My i1Display Pro (which is significantly better than anything from Datacolor) is unusable unless you profile it. However they are hard to find in Canada and even in the US they rarely go on sale.Ĭheap colorimeters are terrible. It seems like i1 Display Pro or even Colormunki is the best one to get for the money. Looks like there's a way around the multi-monitor issue but ffrom my research I'm told only to buy Pro/Elite and to skip the Express. I might've just done something incorrectly as it was my first time.

You'd then adjust the available settings on the monitor itself while taking measurements iwth the software until the measurements are where you want them to be. I use ChromaPure, but free software like Color HCFR which I used to use is quite good as well, just not as intuitive I found. E.g., to calibrate my Samsung TV, I use a device (like this Spyder4), along with appropriate software to perform measurements. No, the settings have to be changed on the monitor/TV itself, if I understand what you are asking. I've always wanted to calibrate all my displays (TV, and monitors) but I'm wondering how it works, once it calibrates are the settings all done through software settings? or would I have to change the settings of the display manually through the monitor/tv button settings? I ask this because one of my TV's doesn't have an htpc set up on it and so if I want to calibrate the display and I don't have a computer that will set it through software then a device like this would be useless for that tv. i-1578799/įor more demanding users, the pro level version Datacolor Spyder4Elite is also on sale, at B&H only, comes to 234 CAD all in (100 USD off):ĭarKCroNo wrote: ↑Hey guys, hopefully you guys can help me.

Check my tutorial on using this software to calibrate a PC monitor:Ĭalibrating-your-monitor-using-cheap-co. This device (and many other colorimeters) can be used with very powerful and free monitor calibration software Dispcalcgui (works under Windows, Mac and Linux also can be used to calibrate screens of mobile devices). This should bring down the all in price for the gadget to a very attractive 90 CAD all in. With B&H, you can save even more if you buy it with another item (at least 41 USD), to qualify for a free shipping. One can always try to price match these deals at Memory Express for an additional ~6$ off:Ī decent entry level monitor calibration device (colorimeter) Datacolor Spyder4EXPRESS is currently on sale at both B&H (US) and Vistek (Canada), around 95 CAD shipped (all in), which is ~50$ cheaper than the regular Canadian price: Thanks to ROYinTO and JTsang for reporting these newest deals. LD stores might also have leftover stocks of Pro and Elite (no longer listed on their website the latter is sold for 140$). In addition to the deals listed in my original post below, amazon.ca has Express for 80$, and London Drugs - for 60$ (in store only): NEW: More stores joined this clearance sales for different models of Datacolor Spyder4.
